The party wall notice and related issues
A party wall is one that is shared by two neighbours. A party wall matter is any work that takes place on, or near to, a party wall or boundary. In such a case, the work is governed by the Party Wall Act 1996.
The Act states there is an obligation to serve notice on the adjoining owners, and requires they follow a specific procedure.
Before you begin any work on or near a party wall, it's best to seek advice from a party wall surveyor as to whether or not it's necessary to issue a party wall notice.
Failure to issue a notice when one is required by law will probably result in significant delays and higher costs.
Martin Schotness and Company provide advice and help with the entire party wall process. We can even provide advice when a party wall notice has been issued to you (versus by you).
